Overview and Philosophy

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree programs in geology are designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and training for career-driven students. The programs encourage a multidisciplinary approach to solving problems in geology and related disciplines such as geochemistry, geomorphology, geophysics, hydrology, mineralogy, paleontology, petroleum geology, petrology, and structural geology. Our rigorous coursework and collaborative training of research methods allow students to develop and strengthen an ability to innovate, plan, and execute his or her independent research. In addition to coursework, students and faculty participate in a variety of seminars which students present their work for criticism and discussion, fostering a positive, collaborative learning environment. The M.Sc. acknowledges student’s knowledge of intellectual pursuit and his or her contribution to specialized field through original research conducted in experimental and theoretical approaches.
