Geological investigation in Ko Si Chang

On 19 March 2015, staff and students from the Department of Geology, Chulalongkorn University run a one-day field trip in Ko Si Chang, Chon Buri, for the Science Exploration and Expedition (SEE) program.

“SEE Thailand with CU” is a 9-day short course program for international students on the basic science exploration and expedition in Thailand with no prerequisite or experience required. This year 34 participants include undergraduate students from Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, China, India, USA and New Zealand.

During the hot sunny day, a brief introduction to the geology of Ko Si Chang was presented as well as basic knowledge on field methods in geology. All participants were sent out to the west coast of the island to observe natural landforms and rock exposure (mainly limestone). It was finished by discussion of the rock formation based on their observations.
